Motivation

Last week I went to the show and presentation of a stunningly talented artist of international stature, and predictably found myself looking at my own work and wondering how to improve as a painter. This bothered me for a few days, then yesterday I put it to rest by reminding myself that is not the road I’m on; while I find some satisfaction in making paintings my real interest and motivation is in what the process of slowing down does for me – noticing small moments of beauty in each day and savoring those, in my case by drawing whatever happens to be in front of me at the time.
