The value of doodling cannot be overstated – these minutes stack up and become hours, and it’s all practice and experimenting with nothing on the line, failure impossible, discoveries frequent.
Will do a few more birds before getting back in the saddle.
An old client asked for birds, a favorite watercolor subject for me, so I’m doing a few for him to choose from. (Posting on Etsy.) Some may sell before he gets to them but there’s always more where these came from.
Sometimes I just have to do a burner, a big page ruined for the sake of ruining it, and it reminds me the world will keep on turning after making a painting destined for the trash.
Botched this watercolor, so with nothing to lose tried something bold. Very happy with it now and learned something new. How about that.
Fiddling with dark against light / light against dark.
Ruined an oil earlier so cut loose with a carefree watercolor to blow out the pipes. Feeling better now.
